Before we let your documents fly...

The Cloud Node is partly rainbows but mostly cool technology. It allows your users to print from anywhere even if they are not connected to the local network.

Printed documents from one office and release at another (cross office/network printing).
Print to your office printers remotely when on the road and pick up when back on site.
Safe, secure, and easy to use (even if you are using free wifi at the café).

We don't like fine print but if we did, we would put the following in small font:

Jobs stay local in the edge mesh where possible. The Cloud Node is only used when necessary, e.g. printing from the café.
Documents are always encrypted and will be permanently deleted once printed or after 24 hours.
This will be applied to all users automatically. No action is required... except when printing from iOS. Don't worry, we will prompt them to install a new profile.

Cloud Node

The Cloud Node may be optionally enabled to support off-network or cloud printing. If one of the network users is say for example in the cafe down the street then no problem. They can still print if the Cloud Node is enabled. The print client on their laptop will securely route the encrypted job via the Cloud Node into the Edge Mesh. The job can then be released as normal.

Important: In normal on-network/LAN/Wifi printing, print jobs never leave your local network. Only off-network jobs route via the cloud. If the Cloud Node is disabled, a print job never can leave your infrastructure. If your data is important and sensitive (e.g. contains personal identifying information), if in doubt we recommend disabling the Cloud Node.

Super Nodes

A Super Node is optional but recommended on networks with 20+ printers. They help improve the reliability of the local edge mesh. An always-on system or virtual machine makes a great Super Node. If present, a Super Node will take the majority of printing traffic and tasks. They perform the same roles as a Standard Node, but just work harder! If there is however a problem with a Super Node, don't worry. Other Super Nodes or Standard Nodes stand ready to automatically step in to repair.

A Super Node can also do a lot to enable advanced printing features. Give it a static IP address and iOS printing will work better, and some MFDs running PaperCut Hive software will require this for a secure connection to the cloud.

Standard Nodes

A Standard Node plays an active role in the local edge mesh. Nodes work together to keep print jobs secure and safe. A Standard Node may perform tasks like:

Securely hold encrypted print jobs waiting for release
Monitor the status of a printer
Support mobile phone printing
Check on your printer's health and toner levels
Makes sure printing just works even if the internet is down

Any laptop, or PC makes a good Standard Node. If a Super Node is present on the network, a Standard Node will often sit idle ready to take over in the event of any failure (the edge mesh is a self-healing network). The more nodes present on the network the more load is shared (a self scaling system).
