Let's get set up

To set up this add-on, you will need admin access to your Windows Azure account, and a cup of coffee if you'd like. We will guide you through the process. You will deploy two packages:

  1. System component
  2. User component

Why two components?

  • The system level component includes print infrastructure (the edge node) and printer drivers.
  • The user level manages the print queues and their associated security and identity/permissions.

Intune add-on set up process

The setup contains secret keys specific to your organization. Don't share the keys with anyone!

Step 1. Download the Intune deployment package

Download the all-in-one package. You'll use it to install both the system and client components.

Step 2. Sign in to Intune

If you’ve created an Intune Trial subscription, the account you created the subscription with is the Global administrator. Sign in to Intune as a Global administrator.

Otherwise, sign in as an Intune Service administrator.

Step 3. Install the system component

Follow these steps to set up and deploy the Intune system component in the Azure portal.

  1. In Intune, select Apps > All apps > Add.
  2. In the Other Apps> section of the Select app type pane, select Windows App (Win32).
  3. Click Select. The Add App page is displayed.

  4. In app package file, upload the downloaded "papercut-hive.intunewin" package.

  5. In App Information , enter these details:

    Name: PaperCut Hive Edge Nodes
Description: PaperCut Hive Edge Node
Publisher: PaperCut Software
    Note: The rest of the fields are optional.
  6. Click Next. The Program page is displayed.

  7. Enter the following in the Install command and Uninstall command fields:

    cd papercut-hive.exe /VERYSILENT /systemkey="aZDyl3HAWW333NUyl7LdBW9m2v90HbDWwDzkDRsLcR9onrcvrfP32dU748CHW9qbvyCGkCXefKXsE2ehVQUL9ohJaooP3IQqVuyb"

    "C:\Program Files\PaperCut Hive\unins000.exe" /VERYSILENT

  8. For Install behavior, select System, then click Next.
  9. For Operating system architecture, select 32-bit & 64-bit.
  10. Under Minimum Operating System, select Windows 10 1607, then click Next.
  11. In the Rules format field, select Manually configure detection rules, then click Add. The Detection rule panel is displayed.
  12. For Rule type, select File.

  13. Complete the Path and File or folder fields with the following:

    Path
    C:\Program Files\PaperCut Hive
    Copy
    File or folder
    pc-edgenode-service.exe"
    Copy
  14. In the Detection method field, select File or folder exists, then click OK.
  15. Click Next to skip the Dependencies step.
  16. Select the group/users you want to deploy the application to.
  17. Click Next. The Review + create page is displayed.
  18. Review the values and settings you entered for the app.
  19. When you are done, click Create to add the app to Intune.

Step 4. Install the user component

Repeat the same steps as above with minor changes

  1. In Intune, select Apps > All apps > Add.
  2. In the the Select app type pane, in the Other Apps section select Windows App (Win32).
  3. Click Select. The Add App page is displayed.

  4. In app package file, upload the downloaded "papercut-hive.intunewin" package:

  5. In the App information page, enter the following details:

    Name: PaperCut Hive Print Client
Description: PaperCut Hive Print Client
Publisher: PaperCut Software
    Note: The rest of the fields are optional.
  6. Click Next. The Program page is displayed.

  7. Enter the following in the Install command and Uninstall command fields:

    Install command
    papercut-hive.exe /VERYSILENT /CURRENTUSER /userkey="c82f9g4ZJSXjBrxieH0n4aUW66ic22VtOHgagYdajQENUqm9FjXxgRTkWQdGGIQPYiO6xx11HrSYGhMS9qlT917mH2QGaCbJ3bQp"

    For Install behavior select User, then click Next.

  8. For Operating system architecture, select 32-bit & 64-bit, under Minimum Operating System, select "Windows 10 1607", click next
  9. In the Rules format field, select Manually configure detection rules, then click Add.
  10. Under Rule type select File.

  11. Complete the Path and File or folder fields with the following:

    Path
    %localappdata%\Programs\PaperCut Hive
    Copy
    File or folder
    pc-print-client-service.exe
    Copy

    Select "File or folder exists" in the detection method pane

  12. Click Next to skip the Dependencies step.
  13. Select the group/users you wish to deploy the application to.
  14. Click Next. The Review + create page is displayed.
  15. Review the values and settings you entered for the app.
  16. When you are done, click Create to add the app to Intune.

That's it! Your add-on is now active.

Go back to your installed add-on to find the number of devices running PaperCut printer. You need at least one successful installation (done by this add on) before stats show up.
